The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has asked Prof. Mahmood Yakubu to resign his chairmanship of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.

The PDP said the call followed further review of “the widely-condemned infractions, brazen violation of the provisions of the Electoral Act, 2022 and criminal manipulation and alteration of election results”.

National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba declared INEC subverted the will of Nigerians in the February 25, 2023 Presidential and National Assembly elections.

In a statement on Friday, the PDP also condemned “the latest scheme” by the commission to reconfigure the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System, BVAS ahead of the state polls.

Olugunagna said NEC’s insistence was meant to “erase and destroy evidence of its manipulation of the presidential election, denying Nigerians and parties” access to relevant information.

Rivers Governor, Nyesom Wike, has explained that the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Tonye Cole is not electable because he is facing prosecution for allegedly defrauding Rivers of $50m.

The Governor, who described Cole as divisive, urged Rivers voters to steer clear of him saying that any attempt to elect him would stall his ongoing prosecution.

Wike appealed to voters to choose Sir Siminialayi Fubara, the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for his disposition to sustaining the prevailing harmony in the State.

Rivers governor, Nyesome Wike has begged Igbos in the state to avoid the gubernatorial candidate of the APC, Mr Tonye Cole in the coming election scheduled for March 18.

Accusing Amaechi of inciting hate between Rivers and Igbo, Wike in his comments yesterday told Igbos in Rivers, “We have been living peacefully with our brothers and sisters; Ndi Igbos, living peacefully, doing business peacefully.

“I should let you know that a vote for Tonye Cole is a vote for the division of Rivers. A vote for Cole is a vote for him not to return our 50 million US dollars, and God will not allow us to vote for such people. We are prosecuting them (Cole, Amaechi). They want to run away from prosecution, but they can not.
