Peter Obi, the candidate of the Labour Party (LP) in the February 25 presidential election has said he is not desperate or in hurry to emerge as Nigeria’s president.
Obi, who came third in the presidential election, according to results declared by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC spoke in Awka during a book launch in his honour.
The former Anambra Governor who is challenging the outcome of the presidential election, however, said he is confident that he would become president of Nigeria one day, but he was not in a hurry to achieve the dream.
The book titled Peter Obi: many voices, one perspective, Obi was written by some former commissioners of the Labour Party presidential candidate when he was governor, according to the Nation newspaper.
Obi also assured that he will accept the ruling of the court in the suit he filed to challenge the outcome of the 2023 presidential election.
“I’m in this journey anyone that thinks I’m on transit is joking. I must be the president of this country. If it’s not today, it will be tomorrow. I’m not in a hurry. I’m not desperate.
“We must fix this country. I have only one passport. if anyone thinks that Peter Obi will run away, is wasting his time.
“I’m in court now, whatever decision of the court, I’ll respect it. I’m not going to riot after which we’ll continue. But I know we’re committed to the destiny of this nation, when it’s God’s time it’ll happen,” Obi was reported as saying.

The Ondo State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party has expressed its readiness to participate in the forthcoming local government election in the state.
The state Chairman of the PDP, Mr Fatai Adams, stated this at the party’s secretariat in Akure, on Thursday.
Recall that the Chairman of the Ondo State Independent Electoral Commission, Prof. Joseph Aremo, had fixed December 16, 2023, for the conduct of the local government poll in the state.
Speaking on Thursday, the PDP chairman, Adams, said the opposition party was ready to participate in the election but warned the ruling All Progressives Congress against manipulating the process.
Adams said the need for the LG poll could not be overemphasised as local governments in Ondo State had become “just salary payment agency of the state government, rather than serving the grassroots as enshrined in the 1999 Constitution (as amended).”

Some residents of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) have asked a Federal High Court in Abuja to stop the inauguration of President-elect Bola Tinubu.
The residents represented by Anyaegbunam Ubaka Okoye, David Aondover Adzer, Jeffrey Oheobeh Ucheh, Osang Paul and Chibuke Nwachukwu, are seeking a court order restraining the Chief Justice of Nigeria and any judicial officer and/or any authority or persons from swearing in any candidate in the February 25 presidential election as president or vice president.
They said this is to judicially determine with finality in accordance with the provisions of Section 134(2)(b) of the Nigerian Constitution that such candidate fulfilled the requirements of the constitution.
They also want an order of the court “setting aside or suspending any declaration and/or issuance of a certificate of return to any candidate in the February 25th presidential election in the country or having been elected save and except it is judicially determined with finality that such candidate fulfilled the conditions stated at Section 134(2)(b) of the Constitution.”

The National Chairman of the Labour Party, LP, Comrade Julius Abure, has apologized to the party faithful that the party inadvertently admitted those he referred to as charlatans and dubious persons into its fold in the hurry to grow its membership. Abure tendered the apology while receiving a group of party supporters and civil society groups at the party’s National Secretariat, in Abuja, on Friday. He expressed sadness that this set of people were the ones who have placed themselves in the service of enemies of the party to cause chaos.
Abure said, “The party was small and because we want to have numbers, we accommodated all forms of charlatans and dubious people into the party. These are people who didn’t offer anything to the party. Apapa scored zero in Oyo state in the Presidential election. Arabambi who is claiming to be the Publicity Secretary scored zero in Ogun state in the presidential election. They even supported other candidates from other parties. In Edo, I scored 79 per cent of the votes in the presidential election. I ensured that APC and PDP did not get 25 per cent in that election.”
