Lockdown: These Seven (7) States Should Go On New Lockdown With Immediate Effect (OPINION)

In the month of March, the federal government of Nigeria initially ordered the closure of the country's economy and all other sectors due to the spread of coronavirus and as a proactive measure to contain the spread of the deadly disease in the country.

Surprisingly, after some months of lockdown the Federal government considered the gradual easing of lockdown and also approved the first and second phase of gradual easing of lockdown in which the ban on the economy and other sectors were relaxed remaining the ban on school reopening.

Ever since President Mohammadu Buhari approved the reopening of many activities in the country, the spread of coronavirus has become more deadly than before.

Yesterday, 16th of July 2020, 595 new confirmed cases and 9 deaths were recorded in Nigeria.

Till date, 34854 cases have been confirmed, 14292 cases have been discharged and 769 deaths have been recorded in 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory

The 595 new cases are reported from 24 states- Lagos (156), Ondo (95), Rivers (53), Abia (43), Oyo (38), Enugu (29), Edo (24), FCT(23), Kaduna (20), Akwa Ibom (17), Anambra (17), Osun (17), Ogun (14), Kano (13), Imo (11), Delta (6), Ekiti (5), Gombe (4), Plateau (4), Cross River (2), Adamawa (1), Bauchi (1), Jigawa (1), Yobe (1).

The states mentioned above have reported new cases of coronavirus in the last 24 hours.

In my opinion, Since the spread of coronavirus in the country is not slowing down in any way, then the federal government should impose a total lockdown on these seven states, Lagos, FCT, Oyo, Edo, Rivers, Delta and Kano so as to help reduce the spread of the virus in their states.

The picture below shows the states that has above 1300 confirmed cases of coronavirus.

In my view, the states mentioned above should go on another lockdown until the spread of the virus reduce in their states.

With this, more lives will be saved and the deadly virus will also be curbed, the risk of contracting the deadly disease would reduce aswell.

What do you think, should these states go on another lockdown or the country as a whole should go on lockdown.
