'They Are Preposterous': Aisha Yesufu Reacts To The $6.1 Billion Loan Approval By The Nigerian Senate

The convener of 'Bring Back Our Girls' group and human rights activist, Mrs Aisha Yesufu, has reacted the latest approved loan by the Nigerian senate for Mr President.

"The 9th Assembly can equally approve the dissolution of the legislative arm, if the President asks them to do it, they are that preposterous!"

The Nigerian Senate, on Wednesday 7th July 2021, approved the request of President Muhammadu Buhari to borrow N2.3 trillion (about $6.183 billion) to fund the deficit in the 2021 Appropriation Act of N5.6 trillion. The senate president, also assured both the government and her citizens that 'every cent will definitely count'. He once said the government does not want to tax the population, because it's an already suffering population, also that the country is 'broke', therefore, Nigeria needs to borrow in other to build infrastructure.

This newly approved loan, will push Nigeria's public debt to N35 trillion, which brings us to the big question?, will Nigeria ever recover from all these debts? It almost seems like Nigeria is gradually heading the same direction as Greece did with their loan issues, it's starting to look almost impossible for Nigeria to pay back its loans with the way things are looking, Nigerians might actually end up bearing the brunt if the government Imposes any form of austerity.
