The Middle Belt Forum [MBF] endorsed the Presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Mr. Peter Obi earlier this year before the general elections. Peter Obi who eventually lost the election to the flag bearer of the APC, Bola Ahmed Tinubu. There has been a weigh-in of thoughts that the MBF pitched their support in the wrong tent. One of the Leader in the Middle Belt Forum and a PDP Chieftain, Adakole Ijogi has argued instead that the MBF was right in its assessment by supporting Peter Obi.
He stated that going by their ideology of equity, fairness, and justice, they glanced through all the candidates and Peter Obi appeared to have lived up to their expectations. According to him, they pulled the votes for Peter Obi in the middle belt. He alleged that even though the votes given to Obi are still being contended, he won in three major states in the middle belt.
He said, ''We in the middle belt forum believe in equity, fairness, and justice. We are thinking that power should shift to the South after the eight years of Muhammadu Buhari who is a Fulani from Kastina in Northern Nigeria. It should rotate to the South and then the South will now decide.
And the Middle Belt Forum looked at all the candidates and we picked Peter Obi of the Labour Party. And we galvanize our people to support him. And you can see Peter Obi won in Plateau, Taraba, and Nasarawa and he got 38% of the votes in Adamawa which is Atiku's state. The middle belt leadership was right in our assessment saying that it's about equity fairness and justice.''
