While the Northern PDP politicians believe that it is only a Northern presidential candidate that can lead the PDP to victory in 2023, the Southern politicians in PDP have vowed to resist any move that will see the North producing the President in 2023.
In my opinion, this development in the PDP may favour the North-Central with former Senate President, Bukola Saraki in the picture.
We will be discussing why I think so in this article.
Why would this latest development in PDP favour the North-Central?

The North Central is one of the geo-political zones in Nigeria that have not produced the President of Nigeria.
Throwing the 2023 presidential ticket of the PDP open will give the middlebelt the opportunity to fight to grab the PDP ticket.
Another reason is that North-Central connects the core North and South. Many Nigerians who are against the country having another President from the core North will support the middlebelt.
Why is Bukola Saraki in the Picture?

The former Senate President is one of the key political figures from the middlebelt who is interested in the 2023 presidential race.
The fact is that many Southerners will vote Saraki because he is not from the core North.
Also, many Northerners will support him because he is a Northerner going by geographical location.
His influence in PDP was felt during the 2019 presidential election and he has a large support base in the South.
While the PDP may not go the way of APC which is likely to zone its 2023 presidential ticket to the South, a candidate from the middlebelt is capable of getting the votes it needs to become the ruling party in 2023.
