1. Suspended Acting Chairman of The EFCC, Magu Released After Ten Days In Detention
Ibrahim Magu the suspended acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), has been released from police custody after ten days in detention.
Magu was arrested on July 6, 2020 amid allegations of corruption and brought before the Justice Ayo Salami-led Presidential panel. The suspended EFCC boss was accused of being unable to account for the interest accrued to recovered funds of about N550bn. He was also accused of insubordination and purchase of property in Dubai, the United Arab Emirates.
2. Senate Urges Federal Governments To Raise Age Limit For Job Seekers
The Senate urged the federal government on Wednesday to urgently raise the age limit for job vacancies in the country. The Senate's call followed the review of an application sponsored by Senator Ibrahim Gobir (Sokoto East), titled "Urgent Need to Review Age Limit for Employment and Employment".
Referring to Rules 42 and 52 of the Senate's Rules of Procedure, Gobir found that the hiring requirements of government departments, ministries, and agencies (MDAs) and other private bodies that set age limits "accidentally" skilful and competent potential applicants from participating exclude and marginalize such exercises.
“Due to the high unemployment rate in the country, many graduates spend up to 10 years looking for work, which puts them in a disadvantageous position through no fault of their own.
“Many people falsify their age in order to reach the required age limit for employment. This development, in which a person believes they are unemployed, can lead them to commence criminal activities and the growing crime rate further increases insecurity in the country.
