[Opinion] Instead Of Relying On Philip Umeadi's Suit, Here Is What Emeka Ihedioha Should Consider

Since Emeka Ihedioha was removed from office as the Executive Governor of Imo State by a Supreme Court's judgement, many people in the state and his supporters across the country, have continued to wish and hope that one day, he would be restored same way he was removed. It is no doubt that any hope for the potential return of Emeka Ihedioha as the Governor of Imo State, is hinged on the suit filed by Chief Phillip Umeadi (SAN)demanding the sack of Governor Hope Uzodinma.

Recall that following the removal of Ihedioha by the Supreme Court, and the emergence of Governor Hope Uzodinma, Chief Phillip Umeadi approached the Apex Court to demand the sack of Governor Hope Uzodinma, through the enforcement of an existing judgement of the Supreme Court on the outcome of All Progressives Congress (APC) primary election ahead of the March 2019 Imo state governorship election.

The judgement which saw the Apex Court nullify Hope Uzodinma's candidacy for the election, and the declaration of Uche Nwosu as the duly nominated candidate of the party for the governorship election, has remained the only hope for a potential return of Ihedioha. This is due to the fact that Uche Nwosu was equally disqualified from the governorship race for having the nomination of Action Alliance (AA), and that the APC.

Despite that the suit filed by Chief Phillip Umeadi has been pending in the Supreme Court for several months, the Apex Court is yet to sit on it. Arguably, the delay in hearing the suit is something that one cannot tell exactly when it would be over. With this, it is my view that instead of Emeka Ihedioha to rely on the Chief Phillip Umeadi's suit for his potential return as the Governor of Imo State, he should rather consider focusing on perfecting plans to return to power during the next governorship election in the state.

Arguably, this may not be what many of his supporters would want to hear, particularly when we consider some of the points raised by Chief Phillip Umeadi in his suit. However, one cannot mandate the Apex Court to call-up the suit. Neither can we tell whether the suit will ever be called up. With this, I am of the view that focusing on the next election, could be a better option for Ihedioha.
