Knowing fully well that teachers are less appreciated in this part of the world as they work more but get less credits. It is always good to celebrate those that brought you to limelight, because they are part of your success stories.
Roughly two years ago, Ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo on Christmas Day visited his former class teacher and mentor, Mr James Popoola who was 91 years old as at 2018. Mr James Popoola's family house is in Ilaeo, Yewa South Local Government Area of Ogun State. He taught Olusegun Obasanjo in 1950 at the Baptist Boys High School in Abeokuta.
Obasanjo was accompanied by his former classmate, Jacob Omolade, who is the traditional ruler of Ibara. The former president engaged his retired teacher with old memories and banters to the admiration of the trio. Mr Popoola who was seeing Obasanjo for the first time in decades, said, “I can’t believe it. I am happy today. Very happy. You mean I will host you in my house today, before my death. It was 35 years ago I met you. You are welcome. Oh! I am delighted, very delighted.”
Obasanjo led him on his wheelchair back into the sitting room. Obasanjo said it has always been his desire to visit but for my tight schedule, he was unable.
“We are happy to see you sir. And I had told Kabiyesi that I am going to remind you of his behaviour in class. Do you remember sir? Obasanjo asked.
The former tutor’s wife, Mojisola Popoola, while contributing said, ‘Daddy often times remembers all your pranks. He must be very happy receiving you today.”
Let's try as much as possible to celebrate those who impacted our lives positively, because your good deeds count.

07-16 09:22:18By this singular act by the former president, it is clear he is a man of conscience. May God give us another leader like him in the country 'cos we really need leaders who love and appreciate others.

07-16 12:38:39Although Obasanjo may not be a saint, but you cannot compare him in terms of administration with most of our past and present leaders. At least, nobody can cause him of nepotism, which is the stock in trade of this present regime. Even his own people see him as a "waste of resources" because he opted to be a Nigerian, instead of a Yoruba man.I therefore advice his haters to have a rethink and love him because he did a lot out of patriotism and the unity of our nation. With what we are passing through today under this administration, we should be able to appreciate OBJ.
