Banditry, terrorism: Buhari-led APC should resign, they have failed – Wike

Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State has called on the All Progressives Congress, APC-led Federal Government to resign before Nigeria collapses due to insecurity.

Wike lamented that the APC-led government had failed to carry out its responsibility of protecting Nigerians. The Governor made the call at an event in Port Harcourt, the state capital, yesterday.

He stressed that the level of insecurity in Nigeria had exposed the APC-led federal government’s inability to manage the country.

Doyin Okupe, a former aide to ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo and Goodluck Jonathan, has boasted that Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State is not his (Wike) contemporary in politics.

Okupe said he has the rights to call derailing members of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, to order as a senior member of the party.

His comment follows a recent public attack on Prince Uche Secondus, the national Chairman of the main opposition party at the weekend.


Petrol subsidy ends after Buhari signs PIB – Minister

The assent of the Petroleum Industry Bill by the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), will put an end to petrol subsidy in Nigeria, the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Chief Timipre Sylva, announced on Monday.

Sylva announced this while speaking at the Nigeria/Organisation of Petroleum Exporting Countries: 50 Years of Partnership press conference in Abuja.

He insisted that it was best for Nigeria that the Federal Government discontinued subsidy on petrol, stressing that the recently passed PIB had no provision for subsidy.

Borno: Nigerian soldiers free civilians amid gunfight with Boko Haram

The troops of Sector 1 Operation Hadin Kai, deployed at the Forward Operational Base along Maiduguri-Damaturu road, have rescued 17 civilians from being kidnapped by Boko Haram terrorists in Borno.

The Director, Army Public Relations, Brig.-Gen. Onyema Nwachukwu, disclosed this in a statement on Tuesday in Abuja.

He said the terrorists had attempted to infiltrate Auno village through a rail line adjacent to the community, but the troops quickly intercepted them in a fierce gun duel.

According to him, further “exploitation” conducted by 7 Division Garrison and 212 battalion troops resulted in the rescue of civilians abducted during the attack at Kontori along Maiduguri-Damaturu road.
