Southern Kaduna youths have once again called the state house of assembly to impeach Governor Nasir El-Rufai and declare state of emergency in the state. The youths who staged a protest at the Unity Fountain in Abuja said that the governor has not taken charge of security situations and failed to forestall peace and safety in the state. This is following the Tuesday night killing of over forty residents of Atyap and other neighboring communities in Zango Kataf by unknown gunmen. The youths, who protested with placards, are under the auspices of Southern Kaduna People's Union.
The Southern part of the state has been the epicentre of Fulani herders attacks for years now. This prompted the youths to suggest the creation of Southern Kaduna state to the Federal Government. In December, 2016, the youths had called on the state assembly to impeach Mallam Nasir El-Rufai 'for conniving with terrorists to kill Nigerians.' The attacks were believed to be targeted at Christians in the region.
