As the 2023 presidential election is approaching, the Northern and Southern regions are fighting for the presidency to be zoned to their own region. The Northern part of the country have been holding the presidential sit for years while the Southern region stopped holding the presidential sit since 1966 which was during the time of former president Nnamdi Azikiwe and Aguiyi Ironsi who was the former governor general of Nigeria. The PDP had formerly agreed to zone the presidential ticket to the North but with pressure coming from the Southern governors forum, their plan might be ejected.
The Southern governors have constantly been fighting for Igbo presidency and this would be really a tough fight. One of the reasons why the sit might be zoned to the South is because the chairman of the zoning committee is the governor of Enugu state, this means that ten Enugu state governor would do everything possible to make sure that the presidency comes to the south.
Even the Ohanaeze NdIgbo cultural group has endorsed southern presidency and has said that if the presidency is not zoned to the south, there would be serious problem between Nigeria and the Igbo people. Plenty governors from both the Easter and Western part have started showing their support for a southern presidency but the major question here is, would the presidential ticket of the people's democratic party be zoned to the south as pressure keeps on mounting on the party. The governors of South Eastern states have already stated that the presidency has lasted for too long in the Northern part of Nigeria and it is now time for it to be moved to the southern part of Nigeria as they believe that a big difference in Nigeria can be achieved.
What do you think about the presidential ticket of the people's democratic party in the 2023, please let us know by commenting.
