A statement issued by the Director, Army Public Relations, Brigadier General Mohammed Yerima, said the gallant troops engaged the terrorists with superior firepower both from the air and on the ground which compelled them to withdraw in disarray with several men and equipment casualty.
Yerima said troops of Operation Lafiya Dole will continue to maintain an aggressive posture to ensure the entire area is cleared of terrorist elements and their activities while maintaining high morale and fighting efficiency.
Terrorist Attacks Affecting Aid Workers Support- FG.
The Federal Government on Monday decried the level of terrorist attacks on aid workers in Nigeria, particularly in the North-East region, as it stated that this was affecting the support from the workers.
Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, Sadiya Farouq, condemned the recent terrorist attacks on humanitarian aid facilities and the killing of civilians in Damask, a town around Lake Chad in Mobbar Local Government Area of Borno State.
She stated this in a statement issued in Abuja by the Permanent Secretary of the humanitarian ministry, Bashir Alkali.
Another Top Politicians Defect To APC.
There was confusion on Monday as the Director-General of Governorship campaign team of late Senator Buruji Kasamu in Ogun State 2019 election, Remilekun Bakare, defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC) from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Bakare is believed to have led Kashamu’s political family to join the APC, barely eight months after the philanthropist and business tycoon died
But a statement made available to Daily Trust by Sunkanmi Oyejide, the spokesman of the state’s PDP loyal to the late politician, said Bakare and other defectors did not represent Kashamu’s political family.
Governor Dapo Abiodun and the State leadership of APC, on Monday, officially received Bakare, former Commissioner for Special Duties, Chief Kola Sorinola and other defectors, at an event held in Abeokuta.
Abiodun urged the new members to continue to work hard towards the continued development of the party and the state.
FG Drops Bombshell Over Criminal Attacks.
The federal government of Nigeria has alerted on reported plans by some criminal elements to launch attacks on some airports in the country.
A memo from the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) indicated that it received a warning from the ministry of aviation over plans to attack some airports in the country.
The listed airports are Kaduna, Maiduguri, Sokoto, Kano, Abuja, and Lagos airports.
It is further understood that security has been beefed up around the airports to forestall the planned attacks but the air of uncertainty created by the report still exists.
