Senate Begins Work On Bill To Prohibit Casual Jobs For Graduates In Nigeria

The Senate, on Thursday, considered a bill seeking to stop employers in the private and public sectors from engaging employable Nigerian graduates as casual workers.

The Prohibition of Casualization Bill 2020, was sponsored by Senator Ayo Akinyelure (PDP, Ondo Central), the statement issued on Thursday by Ezrel Tabiowo, Special Assistant to President of the Senate stated.

It cited Akinyelure saying that “casualization of Nigerian graduates in the Nigerian labour market has become a subject of great concern as more workers continue to groan under this immoral strategy of cutting cost by employers rendering them inferior to their counterpart in other countries of the world.”

Exit from recession: ‘Buhari keeping Next Level promises to Nigerians’ – APC

The All Progressive Congress (APC) has said that President Muhammadu Buhari’s government is fulfilling the party’s campaign promise tagged ‘Next Level’.

Sen. John Akpanudoedehe National Secretary, APC Caretaker and Extra-ordinary Convention Planning Committee (CECPC) said this in a statement on Thursday in Abuja.

Akpanudoedehe said the NBS report, which said Nigeria exited recession in the fourth quarter of 2020, gave credence to the fact that the Buhari-led government: “walks the talk on its promises to Nigerians.”

He recalled that Buhari had promised that Nigeria would exit recession within a short time, adding that the promise had been kept.

“Commendably, Nigeria’s exit from recession is the country’s first growth in three quarters amid the Coronavirus restrictions and consequent economic slowdown,” he said.

Buhari Mourns

President Muhammadu Buhari has expressed sadness over the death of Chief Chibuzor Uduwueze Ziggy Azikiwe a member of the body of benchers and a close political associate.

Mohammadu Buhari's condolence message is contained in a statement by his senior special assistant on media and publicity malam Garba Shehu in Abuja on Thursday.

He described the death as painful loss, adding that the nation has really lost a patriotic citizen.

The president prayed that God will repose the soul of the deceased and Grant the bereaved family and his friends government and people of imo State the strength and fortitude to bear the loss.

Zamfara To Spend N200million On Repentant Bandits

On Thursday, 18th of February, 2021 SaharaReporters reported that the government of Zamfara State has embarked a total of N200million for it's amnesty programme for repentant bandits in 2021.

According to Reports, The figure was contained in the budget passed by the Zamfara State House of Assembly in December, 2020.

In copy of Budget seen by SaharaReporters, N350million was also budgeted for projects related to grazing reserves.

The Bello Matawalle led government had in 2019 entered a peace agreement with bandits. The Zamfara State governor said negotiating with bandits is the best option for lasting peace in the state.
