An apology for the anti-Igbo remark made by the former Director of Publicity for the Presidential Campaign Council of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Mr Bayo Onanuga, has been extended to the Igbo people, according to news that was published by the Sahara Reporters this evening. Chief Bode George is a former Deputy National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
While hosting a delegation from the Lagos State chapter of Anya-Ndi-Igbo, a nonpartisan organisation that promotes Igbo socio-political and economic development, Bode George apologised and warned Bayo Onanuga to be careful or he would be expelled from Lagos State.
Remember that Bayo Onanuga had threatened Igbos against meddling in Lagos State politics during the 2023 general elections, as he urged them to mind their business and to remain out of Lagos State politics or be dealt with. Bayo Onanuga continued by asserting that he is under no obligation to retract his threat.
As he reacted to this and begged the Igbos to accept his apology for Onanuga's careless remarks, Chief Bode George described it as senseless and inconsistent.
It is disappointing that Onanuga has not yet expressed regret for the remark, he remarked. Please allow Ndigbo to accept my apology for making such a stupid comment, and I anticipate Professor Wole Soyinka will advise him to do so instead of insulting Datti Baba-Ahmed. Making such a statement in a nation like Nigeria is absurd, illogical, and foolish.
Bode George continued by asking, "How can you tell them they can't come here? Is that how Lagos State lives? You don't come here to come and define our culture, but Lagos State is the commercial hub of not just Nigeria but all of West Africa. I think there is a new movement in Lagos State, and the elders of the real Lagosians are going to meet. the prevailing culture.
Bode George questioned Bayo Onanuga's identity and was not surprised that Chief Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu had not yet instructed him to stop his outbursts.
As a true-born and genuine Lagosian, he apologised, saying that such behaviour was inappropriate and that it needed to stop. We will also prevent Onanuga from entering Lagos State if he is careless.
