As crisis and disunity continues to rock the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Cross River State, the party has resolved to propose zoning for the forthcoming Local Government Chapter Congress. Recall that there were differential crises after the recent ward congress which elected new leaders.
And I have been wondering if this move will solve the crisis at the party? Will it also make those who had taken the party to court over the concluded ward congress withdraw their suit?
I think, one of the ways to resolve the matter is to give old members preferential treatment as they have sacrificed a lot for the party before new members came to the party. The 'Old or New Members' biases will continue to rock the party until something is done about it.
It is even more worrisome for the party to issue a warning to those that took the party to the court, that if they fail to withdraw their suit, they will face the full wrath of the party constitution. Is this threat the best way to resolve issues?
On this note, I think the state governor, Sir Ben Ayade should use his power as the leader of the party in the state to call all and sundry to put their heads together as one to reflect the unity, stability, and goodwill of the party which has always been the position of the governor.
While the party is trying to resolve its leadership crisis at the National level, it is pertinent for the states to put their houses together, as the 2023 general elections would not be business as usual.
