Muslim Society Attacks Kukah Over Christmas Message
A society, Muslim Solidarity Forum (MSF), has asked Bishop Mattew Hassan Kukah to "quickly and quietly leave” Sokoto, the seat of the caliphate, over "inciting comment."
In a new twist to the criticism of the respected cleric on the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari, the group issued the threats on Tuesday, January 12, describing the Bishop's statement as "provocative."
NECO Releases 2020 SSCE Results
The National Examinations Council (NECO) has released the Senior Secondary School Examination (SSCE) results with a 2.3 per cent increase in the number of candidates who scored five credits and above, including English and Mathematics.
The Registrar and Chief Executive of NECO, Prof. Godswill Obioma, announced the results at the council’s headquarters in Minna on Wednesday.
FFK Replies Muslim Group
Femi Fani-Kayode, a former Minister of Aviation, has faulted the call by a group that the Catholic Bishop of Sokoto Diocese, Matthew Kukah, should leave the state, following the latter’s Christmas message.
An Islamic group, Muslim Solidarity Forum, Sokoto, had advised Kukah to quietly leave Sokoto or stop what it termed “his malicious vituperations against Islam and Muslims”.
Reacting, Fani-Kayode insisted that Kukah did not attack Muslims in his Christmas message, while promising to give out N1 million to anyone who can provide him with a video of the Catholic bishop calling for violence against Muslims or inciting people against Islam.
Another Prominent Nigerian Dies
Former Military Administrator of Imo and Lagos States, Ndubisi Kanu is dead.
The retired Rear Admiral, 78, passed away on Wednesday in a hospital after a brief illness.
Kanu fought on the Biafran side during the civil war and was reabsorbed into the Nigerian military at the end of the war in 1970.
In July 1975, as a lieutenant commander, the deceased was appointed a member of Murtala Muhammed’s ruling Cabinet, the Supreme Military Council.
Kanu was part of those who signed an ultimatum for the General Sani Abacha regime to revalidate Abiola’s mandate and hand over power.
May his gentle soul continue to rest in perfect peace and may the Almighty God grant the bereaved family the fortitude to bear the irreplaceable loss. Barley a month in 2021 and many famous Nigerians have passed away.
