Why Trump Is Yet to Fire Fauci Despite His Apparent Disagreement With Him

Why Trump Is Yet to Fire Fauci Despite His Apparent Disagreement With Him

Dr. Anthony Fauci is a well known medical expert in America. His medical expertise has brought him to the limelight since 1980s. He played a central role in the spread, and the development of the treatment for HIV and AIDS.

Dr. Fauci is currently the director, National Institute of Allergy and Infectious diseases in America. Since the onset of COVID-19, Fauci has been known for his continuous disagreement with Trump's administration on COVID-19. Fauci's stance has been in alignment with Democrats'. He was one of the so-called experts who disagreed with Trump on hydroxychloroquine's effectiveness on COVID-19. Not until recently, many Americans started making out what Fauci has been up-to, especially by kicking against the hydroxychloroquine treatment which apparently he knew was really curing patients with COVID-19. Probably for financial interest, Anthony Fauci continued to champion the trial of the failed remdesivir drug which increased fatality rate when tried on Ebola patients. Some Americans have been expecting Fauci's dismissal for misleading the country.

But the question is, does Trump actually have the constitutional powers to dismiss Fauci? Recall that Fauci is a career civil servant who is not directly answerable to the president. His removal will be difficult to Mr Trump, but not impossible. Trump can only remove him indirectly pending court final decision if he appeals.
