There have been problems in the party concerning the region that will produce the next presidential candidate of the party. The southerners have made a demand when they met in Lagos, but the northern politicians rejected it. The opposition party will not be able to challenge the power of the ruling party if it continues this way before the commencement of the forthcoming presidential election.

The leaders of the party need to arrange the politicians that will be representing the interest of the party in the election without any sentimental views when selecting the politicians. They should avoid the zoning system when determining the representatives of the party in the upcoming presidential. They should team up against the All Progressive Congress (APC) with Peter Obi and Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.

Obi ran alongside Atiku Abubakar in the previous presidential election and performed even beyond expectations. Peter Obi was massively supported by his people in the southeastern part of the country. He should be the next flag bearer of the party because of his experience. He has been the major stronghold politician in the southern region for the opposition party. The fact that he participated in the previous general election makes him qualify to run for the post. He should be the presidential candidate of the opposition party.

Kwankwanso is a northerner that has been in northern politics for a very long time. He ruled over Kano State for eight years, and he must have known how politicians in the northern part of the country play their games. The opposition party needs to challenge the strength of the All Progressive Congress (APC) in the northern part of the country because the APC is currently controlling 14 out of the 19 states in the north.
