For some days now, one of the trending topics on social media is that of the Minister of Communication And Digital Economy Isa Pantami, who has been accused of having affinity and sympathy with terrorist sect. Many Nigerians have been calling for the sack or resignation of Pantami. In all of these, the Federal Government has kept mute, while the Minister himself has been silent about the whole saga.
Today, the Minister, Isa Pantami has broken the silence in his today's Ramadan fasting lectures, as he discloses the realistic causes of cybersecurity challenges in Nigeria. Isa Pantami disclosed that some of the causes of the country's insecurity problem and challenges are mainly the act of laziness of Nigerian youths, which has glued in their blood. Pantami also disclosed in his statement that:
"Nigeria youths are often lazy, and they don't want to work to earn a living or saving for themselves. They are always waiting for free things, blessings, or politicians' shares during campaigns. The Minister also stressed the fact that if laziness lingers for too long, youths would look for simple ways to get quick money." He disclosed in his Ramadan sermon today that:
"I have labored in various kinds of categories in my life to earn a living. The categories include Mechanic, Tailoring, Buying, and Selling of Goods, then Government work which he is currently doing", Pantami added.
From the above statement of Isa Pantami, I am tempted to ask the following questions:
1. Would you say that Pantami is right in attributing the cause of insecurity only to the laziness of Nigerian youths?
2. What of others factors such as unemployment, poverty, unfavorable government policy, etc, what part do they play in aggravating insecurity in the country?
In my opinion, we can not deny the fact that insecurity doesn't just start overnight, some factors could be responsible for triggering or aggravating it. When adequate attention is given to youths which accounts for 80% of the labor force, it could result in the rise of insecurity which the country is currently in now.
