2023: Why PDP Should Accept Northern Group’s Request If The Party Wants To Avert Defection Crisis

Reports have already surfaced that a political crisis has erupted in the heart of the People's Democratic Party (PDP) over a plan to put the party on the right path that will guide it in Nigeria's political contest for the presidency in 2023. The crisis erupted due to a group dubbed the Northern Youth Solidarity Forum (NYSF) openly protesting under the leadership of 13 governors in the party. They instructed the party authorities to take over the leadership of the party from the hand of the governors.

The chairman of the party, Abdulkadir Dantata, clarified the issue at the party's national convention in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, on Monday, saying the party leaders should stand up to address the issue of zoning of party offices in the country before it is too late. He accused the party's governors of doing nothing but trying to sabotage the party and plan to destroy it into Golgotha.

“We have also not forgotten what played out at Eagle Square in December 2017 that led to the emergence of Prince Uche Secondus as the party’s National Chairman against the popular will of party members and supporters. We must rise and challenge this situation now, as the 13 governors of the party cannot be greater than 24. Party members in the 24 states of the federation that have no governors should come out with a strong position on zoning. The southwest and northeast should not be allowed to suffer on account of the decision of PDP governors. "Said Dantata.

Of course, this call should be a wake-up call for the PDP seeing the tremendous contribution the youths have always made, especially when we look at how the youths are campaigning during the elections to ensure the people elect a candidate who comes out from under their party flag. In my opinion, the PDP should give the youths a chance to go hand-in-hand so that they know that they have benefited from some of their commitment to the party. Furthermore, dissatisfaction with the demands of the youth may lead to their withdrawal from the party, which in turn will lead to the collapse of the party and provide a good opportunity for the opposition parties, especially when entering the electoral arena.

What can you say about the need for this youth group? What kind of impact will they have if the PDP agrees to their demand? You can tell us your thoughts on this question in the comment section below and you can continue to follow her to get the latest political news at any time.
