Nigeria's current leader, Muhammadu Buhari has called on suitable stakeholders to increase their efforts in achieving a complete database of all citizens in the country. The President was represented by the Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Prof. Isa Pantami, who made this call at the commemoration of the 3rd National Identity Day in Abuja.
He also praised the accomplishments of all stakeholders as regards National Identification Number (NIN), adding it was highly applaudable, particularly being able to capture millions of Nigerians in less than a year. Buhari called on stakeholders in the private and public sectors to unite together before the end of his term in office, to secure a complete database for the country.
Pantami explained there was a need to use creative methods to deploy national identity trust systems, not only to deliver government services but also to build an indigenous digital economy. He said there was a need to continue to reinforce every Nigerian to have a digital identity, irrespective of social class or economic status.
The President continually proves his eagerness to provide the necessary support to relevant agencies of government to harness all identity infrastructure in the country toward strengthening our domestic digital economy. He said without NIN, the government would not be able to effectively deliver public services to Nigerians.
