IPPIS another mechanism to undermine 2009 agreement - ASUU

Regarding the incessant interface between the Federal Government and Academic Staff Union Of Universities , The Union has accused the Federal Government of using the Integrated Personnel Payroll and Information System (IPPIS) to lower the capacity of the renegotiation of FG/ASUU 2009 agreement and memorandum of action

Professor Rabiu Nasiru of Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria made this known, saying the Accountant General of the Federation (AGF) was the tool being used to achieve FG's tactics and obstructing the progress of negotiation between ASUU and FG

After the FG/ASUU 2009 agreement of February 7th 2019, it was agreed that the visitation panel, through which excesses of the universities are checked, would be sent to various universities by 11th March 2019

However, this panel are yet to be constituted by the FGN despite the hue and cry about fighting corruption. The whole intent of the Federal Government was not to address corrupt practices in our universities, but to truncate 2009 FG/ASUU agreement

The Union, hereby urge the Federal Government to desist from any action the would ridicule the University autonomy for the sake of this and future generations to come

In related development, The Union National President, Prof Biodun Ogunyemi decries recruitment system in Universities across the country and said, some lectures are not qualified to teach and have no business in classrooms but have found their way in through political interference, stating that recruitment processes has done a lot of damage because lot of people finding themselves in class are not able to teach

Furthermore, He said, the Union shall restore back the credibility in the system which shall serve as a tool to go back to the renegotiation table with FG , also stressed that, there is need to talk more on new agreement package which will address shortcomings in Universities
