Hunger In The Land Worries My Mind - Buhari

Nigeria's President, Mohammadu Buhari, has expressed concern over the prevailing hunger and endemic poverty in the entire country.

Babagana Monguno, National Security Adviser, disclosed this to newsmen after Buhari held a closed-door meeting with security chiefs, at the state house in Abuja.

Monguno revealed that the President described the condition as an ''Emergency Situation.''

''Buhari is not unaware of the plights of the people and he's working with the vice-president and other members of his cabinet, government agencies, departments and relevant ministries to address the situation.

''The President is concerned about the emergency situation. And he's not pleased to see people wallow in hunger and poverty.

''This condition is giving the President sleepless nights. And he's employing all necessary and relevant tools at his disposal to tackle the menace of widespread hunger, Monguno clarified.

Reports say more than half of Nigeria's estimated 250 million population survive on less than a dollar a day and wallow in abject poverty.

It was gathered that a depreciation in the value of the Naira and food inflation further made it hard for Nigerians to fed.

Meanwhile, the Buhari-led administration has reiterated his commitment to lift 100 million Nigerians out of poverty in 10 years.
