2023 Presidency : Why MURIC Is Wrong On Insisting On A Yoruba Muslim Presidential Candidate

The Muslim Right Concern (MURIC) has insisted that political parties in Nigeria should field Yoruba Muslims as their presidential candidates.

The statement was made by MURIC Director, Professor Ishaq Akintola yesterday.

The outspoken Muslim Rights Activist stated that no Yoruba Muslim has ever occupied Aso Rock either as a President or Vice President since Nigeria's independence in 1960.

He claimed that three Yoruba Christians, Olusegun Obasanjo, Ernest Shonekan, and Yemi Osinbajo have occupied the positions.

What the well-known Professor stated is needless at a time Nigerian leaders are trying to bring everybody together irrespective of religious or tribal affiliations.

MURIC insistence on a Yoruba Muslim presidency in 2023 may not be helpful as Nigerians continue to look forward to a leader that can bring about positive change without considering his religious background.

Yoruba Muslims might not have been in power for many years but it should be noted that Muslims from the North have been President of this nation on different occasions.

What the religious leader should be clamoring for is a competent and visionary leader that will help improve the economy not minding his religious background.
