Countdown to handover: FEC holds last session, governors dissolve cabinets

With just four days left in his presidency, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (ret.) the President presided over the Federal Executive Council's farewell meeting on Wednesday in Abuja. He thanked the ministers for their dedication since 2015.

At the Presidential Villa in Abuja's courtyard, "he also gave a brief thank-you speech to every member of the State House staff." PUNCH reported.

Later, information on the six-hour meeting held behind closed doors was made available to media in a statement issued late on Wednesday by Femi Adesina, the Special Advisor to the President on Media and Publicity, and a post-FEC briefing moderated by Lai Mohammed, the Minister of Information and Culture.

Following each minister's chance to speak, "Buhari commended them for their perseverance in pursuing the goal."

Buhari stated, "I'm glad to say we gave it our all."

According to PUNCH, "All of the cabinet members were instructed to go back to respective ministries, clean off their desks, and prevent any last-minute hurry that may jeopardize their years of labor." Source stated.

In the course of our years together, from our newest arrival to the oldest members of the team for the previous seven and a half years, "we have disagreed on numerous matters," he said.

PUNCH reported that, "I firmly believe that we must comprehend that those stances were taken for the sake of the group as a whole, and that no one should harbor grudges or continue these disagreements."

"For those of us who won't be directly in government—and I know I fall into that category—I ask that we continue to offer our support, in whatever way we can." Source added.
