The meeting between five Southeast Governors, Senators, Traditional rulers, and other leaders at the Government House, Enugu on October 5, 2021, ended on a positive note as the leaders of the region issued a communique aimed at restoring peace in the region and bringing an end to insecurity in South-East Nigeria.
At the end of the meeting, the Governors issued warnings to those sponsoring sit-at-home orders who are mainly based abroad. They also agreed to form a security unit called Ebubeagu Security Network in all parts of the South-East states before the end of 2021.
As it stands, the two strategic decisions reached by South-East governors will help restore peace in the region and ensure that criminal elements in the region are brought to book.

Will this move bring peace in the South-East region?.
In my opinion, the recent move made by the South-East governors during their meeting in Enugu State Government House is a strategic one. During the meeting, the governors were able to identify those pushing the sit-at-home order and also unanimously opposed the order. This singular act will help to ensure that those fanning the embers of war in the region are stopped immediately and also made to face justice.
Secondly, the realization that all South-East states need to implement the Ebubeagu Security Network in their states is also another move aimed at ensuring that peace returns in the region and criminal elements are dealt with.
Lastly, the meeting has resonated in security operatives, residents with the idea that the South-East governors are aware of the security challenges in the region and are ready to restore peace. It is however expected that residents cooperate with the governors in ensuring that those killing and burning properties of residents of South-East are stopped now and made to pay for their crimes.
