Opinion: Two Things Olusola Oke Will Benefit If He Works For Akeredolu

It is not possible for Mr. Olusola Oke to remain neutral in the forthcoming gubernatorial election. He must surely back a particular candidate since his loss of the ticket of the All Progresives Congress (APC) to the current state governor Rotimi Akeredolu.

Mr. Olusola Oke has not defected to another political party, and from all indications (though politicians aren't predictable) he won't leave the APC for another party. The People's Democratic Party (PDP) had already picked its candidate. Therefore, there wouldn't be any reason for him to go to the opposition party.

If Mr. Oke finally stays in the All Progresives Congress, he has to be very sincere and loyal to the party. He has a lot of things to benefit if he seriously and religiously work for the success of the APC and Rotimi Akeredolu.

Mr. Rotimi Akeredolu has four more years to spend (if he wins the coming election as predicted). And definitely another person will take over from him.

If Oke can build a very strong and cordial relationship with Akeredolu using the election, Mr. Akeredolu can compensate Oke by anointing Oke as the APC candidate in 2024 when the incumbent governor finishes his term. That is a benefit.

Another benefit is that Olusola Oke himself will be more popular and relevant in the party and Ondo State. The party will recognise whatever he does for the APC candidate and it will be in the records that he contributes effectively to the success of the party in the election.
