Ogun State former governor and late politician Chief Bisi Onabanjo was the one who gave former military president of Nigeria for eight years, Ibrahim Babangida the nickname 'Maradona' because of his(Babangida)political maneuvering skills.

The retired military leader political skillset is liken to Argentine football legend, Diego Maradona's endless dribbling skills on the pitch according to Bisi Onabanjo.

After eight years as military head, Ibrahim Babangida agreed to hand over power to a democratically elected president in 1993 earned him the nickname 'Maradona'

Ibrahim Babangida sacked Nigerian current president Muhammadu Buhari in a bloodless military coup in 1986 and he went on to lead the country for eight uneventful years filled will corruption.

Election was finally conducted in 1993 and late Moshood Kashimawo Abiola,MKO of the Social Democratic Party, SDP won Bashir Torfa, his closest challenger and NRC candidate

Following Abiola's victory, Ibrahim Babangida led the military government made a dramatic and infamous u-turn and annulled the June 12 election that is adjudged the freest in Nigeria electoral history. 

Bisi Onabanjo was the governor of Ogun State between 1979-1983.
