The northeastern region of the country has become a serious source of security concerns due to the unlawful and heinous activities of Boko Haram insurgents. These insurgents have caused serious mayhem on residents of most states in the northeastern region of the country. Most residents of the region now leave in IDP camps due to fear and anxiety caused by the attacks of the insurgents.
Though, President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration has shown resilience in its effort to end the insurgency. There have been acquisition of sophisticated weapons and fighter jets to enable the Nigerian military and other security agencies to tackle the insurgency.
However, a recent statement by the Adamawa State governor Ahmadu Finitri that only an elected president from the northeastern region can end insurgency quickly is worrisome. According to the governor, insurgency in the North East would end within the first term of the Presidency of any candidate of North Eastern extraction.
For me, Governor Ahmadu Finitri made a logical error when he made the above statement.
Firstly, does he mean that a president that is not from the northeast can not end insurgency? What Governor Finitri should understand is that what is needed to properly end insurgency in the northeast is equipping our soldiers with modern war equipment, and vehicles so that soldiers can penetrate every possible hideout of the insurgents

Also, if Governor Finitri is saying only a president from the Northeast can end insurgency, because the president has a first-hand understanding of the region, why has President Buhari not ended banditry since he is from the northwest and with Governor Finitri's logic, he should understand the northwestern region properly.
In all these, ending insecurity should be a collective effort. After all, there are positive effects of the efforts of President Muhammadu Buhari and his administration towards ending the insurgency.
