Soludo's Victory: INEC Have Given Nigerians Genuine Hope For Free And Fair Elections

The Anambra state gubernatorial election was a perfect test for the readiness of the independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to conduct the much anticipated 2023 general elections in Nigeria. Sensationally, INEC executed this task excellently irrespective of the preliminary challenges that nearly marred the tendencies of a peaceful election in Anambra state. With this, the just concluded Anambra election is already being discussed as the most freer and fairer election in the state.

Through the peaceful election in Anambra state, INEC were able to re-establish their unwavering commitment towards the conduct of free and fair elections in Nigeria. During the election in Anambra state, the tendencies of electoral malpractice were reduced to the barest minimum by INEC. This culminated in the emergence of the people's choice.

Secondly, INEC were so swift with their responses to unforseen circumstances. When there were reported cases that election was not conducted in Ihiala local government area, INEC immediately declared the election inconclusive and subsequently scheduled 9 Tuesday for the conduct of election in Ihiala local government. Such swift and transparent responses from INEC were enough to confirm their preparedness for a smooth electoral process in Nigeria.

More so, INEC used the Anambra gubernatorial election to evaluate the effectiveness of the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) ahead of the 2023 elections. Though, there were reported cases of network glitches which marred the effective use of the BVAS, however, in some cases where the BVAS was active, it recorded a huge success. This is indeed a right step towards a more freer and fairer election in 2023.

With this, the electorates' hope in INEC has been reawakened. The issues of voter apathy have been directly addressed by INEC's neutrality and fairness during the gubernatorial election in Anambra state. With this, INEC have been commended for their unwavering efforts towards protecting the interests of the country's democracy and the citizenry have seen substantial reasons to participate in the forthcoming 2023 general elections.
