Former Governor of Osun State, Ogbeni Abdulrauf Adesoji Aregbesola is undoubtedly one of the major politicians in Nigeria who could be considered favored with the return of democracy to the country, in 1999.
Whatever he might have possessed prior to the return of democracy in 1999, Ogbeni Abdulrauf Adesoji Aregbesola should be considered as one of the major beneficiaries of democracy.
Ogbeni Abdulrauf Adesoji Aregbesola has been in government, serving at various levels, since the election of his political boss, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu as the Executive Governor of Lagos State.
Ogbeni Abdulrauf Adesoji Aregbesola has served as Honorable Commissioner in Lagos State before he was promoted by his political boss, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, to contest for the position of Osun State Governor in 2007.
Ogbeni Abdulrauf Adesoji Aregbesola enjoyed the full support of his political boss, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, throughout the legal tussles that followed the stolen of his mandate by the administration of Prince Olagunsoye Ishola Oyinlola of the Peoples Democratic Party.
He regained this mandate in 2010 and was sworn-in as the Executive Governor of Osun State in 2010.
Ogbeni Abdulrauf Adesoji Aregbesola served as the Executive Governor of Osun State between 2010 and 2018.
In 2019, Ogbeni Abdulrauf Adesoji Aregbesola was nominated for the position of Minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. His nomination was authenticated by the National Assembly and he was, later, posted to the Ministry of Interior by President Muhammadu Buhari.
Ahead of 2023, there two possibilities for Ogbeni Abdulrauf Adesoji Aregbesola, in as much as Nigerian politics is concerned.
Ogbeni Abdulrauf Adesoji Aregbesola is being considered to contest for the Osun East Senatorial District. This was linked to the dissatisfaction of Ogbeni Abdulrauf Adesoji Aregbesola on the defection of former Deputy Governor Iyiola Omisore to the ruling party, All Progressives Congress (APC).
Ogbeni Abdulrauf Adesoji Aregbesola hail from Ilesa, which is a major political city of the Senatorial District.
Considering the political disagreement between Ogbeni Abdulrauf Adesoji Aregbesola and his successor, Governor Isiaka Adegboyega Oyetola, the former governor may find it difficult to emerge as the Senatorial candidate of All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State. With this, Ogbeni Abdulrauf Adesoji Aregbesola may likely be implored to be preparing himself for any political position that could befit a retired politician.
Sincerely, former Governor of Osun State, Ogbeni Abdulrauf Adesoji Aregbesola seems not be in control of the party structure in Osun State and this may, possibly, make it uneasy for him to pick the Senatorial ticket of Osun East.
