Mr. Doyin Okupe, a former spokesperson for the former president, Goodluck Jonathan, has declared his ambition to rule the country. He said he would like to become the president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. Nigerians would elect a new president in 2023. Doyin Okupe would be advised to meet three top politicians.
He would be looking forward to clinching the ticket of the People's Democratic Party which would be keenly contested by party leaders. Note that there is a very strong indication that the PDP would throw its ticket to the southern region. And if Doyin Okupe meets the leaders, he might get the ticket of the party.
The first strategic politician he needs to meet is the former president himself. There is no way Okupe can overlook the former president of the country unless he is not serious about his declaration for the office of the president of the country. Goodluck Jonathan would play a number of roles in the struggle of Doyin Okupe.
Okupe served under the former president and Jonathan remains a principal or a boss to the former spokesperson. Although Jonathan had left power, he still holds some stakes in the PDP and he would be useful in the struggle of the top loyalist of the PDP. If Jonathan gives his blessings to Doyin Okupe, the deal would be done.
The second leader that he needs to meet is Mr. Seyi Makinde, the Oyo State governor. There is no doubt that the inability of the PDP to control southwest has paved the way for the Oyo State governor to become a top PDP leader in the region. And the first PDP leader to be reckoned with in southwest is Seyi Makinde.
Doyin Okupe is from Ogun State. And he would need the massive backups of his home base. In as much as the APC controls Ogun State, he would need to get his backups from outside the state. And that is why he would need to meet Mr. Seyi Makinde. Apart from that, it would be easier to get the support of Mr. Taofeek Arapaja, the chairman of the PDP in the southwest region.
Although the PDP wouldn't let any northerner contest for the ticket, no aspirant would emerge without the contribution of Mr. Atiku Abubakar, the last PDP candidate in the presidential election. The former vice president still retains some power across the state chapters of the PDP and he can help any aspirant to emerge.
Doyin Okupe can urge the former vice president to consider the Yoruba people in the struggle to take over from President Muhammadu Buhari in 2023. Atiku quite understands the needs to put focus on the southwest zone. Hence, if he is approached by Okupe, he may embrace the former spokesperson.
