2023: Why PDP Might Lose Four States in South-South Region If Party Zones Presidency To The North

The forthcoming presidential election is one of the most anticipated event in Nigeria. It is the topic of discussion of every political aspirant including the masses. The two prominent political parties which are the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the opposition party, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) will definitely strive hard to win the people's vote.(Image Credit: Saharareporters)

However, there are other political parties who are aiming to wrestle with the prominent ruling parties in the country. The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP could face dangerous complications if it's presidential ticket is taken to the north. (Image Credit: Daily Post)

The six states in the south-south are a mixture of the Peoples Democratic Party and the All Progressives Congress. Any wrong move that affects the leadership of the party or even the loyalty of the members will lead to decamp of party members.(Image Credit: Daily Post)

Among the six states in the south-south, Cross River and Akwa Ibom stand a good chance of gaining the support of the citizens for the Peoples Democratic Party. Cross River is already being ruled by the PDP and if the presidential ticket is zoned to the North, the masses will lose trust in the party.

Good votes from other opposition parties may come from Akwa Ibom, but the state still stand a chance to win the election with the Peoples Democratic Party.

The possibility of PDP winning in Edo State may be less because the influence of APC in Edo State is very strong and beyond comparison. The state is sincerely for the APC but might give little support for the PDP if the presidential ticket is not zoned to the north in 2023.(Image Credit: Daily Post)

In Bayelsa State, the support of former President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, the Peoples Democratic Party has a chance of winning the votes of the citizens. Also, the good performance of All Progressives Congress (APC) in the last governorship election in Bayelsa State is an indication that the ruling party is surely on ground to wrestle it with PDP in the south-south geopolitical zone. But if the presidential ticket is zoned to the north, the party loses a chance to compete against the opposition team.

The crisis rocking the party at national level can also be a disadvantage in the forthcoming election if not resolved.(Image Credit: Vanguard)

Nevertheless, both parties are capable of winning the presidential race with the right politicians from right regions. Also with the support of the states in the south-south, the parties may become higher in struggling for the position.
