Anti-open Grazing Bill Passed in Delta State, Awaits Assent

The Delta State House of Assembly today, passed the anti grazing bill, This bill came in light of the recent agreement by the Southern Governors Forum in Asaba to place a ban on open grazing, in light of the recent happenings in the Country, where farmers are kidnapped and killed, and their crops taken over, puting a strain in food production, leading yo high cost of foodstuffs and living in the country.

The bill when passed would prohibit the carrying of unlicenced firearms, either licenced or not by herdsmen, the move is a major one to fight against insecurity and the protection of lives and property inthe state, Delta State follows suit other southern states like ondo, and benue who have passed the bill, this is coming months after an alleged fulani group sent a warning letterto Sen. Dr Ifeanyi Okowa, warning him on the passage of the bill, threatening the destruction of lives and property in the state capital, if such decision is not reversed, the delta state government should ensure proper security, against any miscreants who might want to sabotage its implementation. The bill however awaits the assent of the governor until then it remains a bill and not law.

The Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly Rt. Hon Sheriff Oborevwori expressed Joy over its passing calling it a "welcome development in the state", and also to the constitution.
