Benue Speaker Commends UNDP, Sues For More Partnership

Speaker,Benue state House of Assembly,Rt.Hon.Titus Uba has commended United Nations Development programme (UNDP)for always supporting the state during challenging moments.

The Speaker stated this today when a UNDP delegation paid courtesy call on the leadership of the 9th Assembly at the House of Assembly complex,makurdi.

The number one law maker stressed that,the 9th Assembly under his watch will continue to sustain legislations that will guarantee peace,gender equality,youths and women involvement in politics.

He further appealed to the organization to partner with the state in the drilling of river Benue to boast the state economy.

Earlier in his address,the Country representative of UNDP, Mohammed Yahya said,they were in the state to access the level,the Ortom-led administration has managed the covid-19 pandemic saying,he was impressed with the measures put on ground to prevent further spread of the deadly virus.

Mr Yahya explained that,their roles remain: poverty eradication, discouragement of inequality and exclusion, ensuring gender inequality and helping countries to develop policies for good governance.

Also contributing,The Chairman,House committee on rural development,Rt.Hon.Ngohemba Agaigbe appealed to the organization to also intervene in flood control in parts of the states.

The Deputy Speaker Rt.Hon.Christopher Adaji,in his vote of thanks said,Benue was the first state to attain zero status on gender based violence and assured the delegation that,the 9th Assembly will continue to sustain efforts in ensuring that,Benue remains a peaceful state.

The UNDP delegation was accompanied on the visit by,the Special Advisor to the Governor on MDG'S,Prof.Magdaline Dura,The Director-general FEMA,Dr.Emmanuel Shior among others.
