At least the naysayers will have a rethink after the President, Muhammadu Buhari, had a meeting with the national leader of the All Progresives Congress (APC) Bola Ahmed Tinubu. The two met today along with Chief Bisi Akande.
There have been speculated rumours that there was a frosty relationship between the two key leaders of the APC, Buhari and Tinubu. The rumours were based on the irregularities in the meeting between Buhari and Tinubu. The two were very close during the 2015 and 2019 general elections.
Even Tinubu was considered as the bulwark that propelled Buhari to power in the two years mentioned above. Hence, by not meeting or seen together regularly, it was thought that the two were having some differences.
Now that the president has given some audience to Tinubu, the former Lagos State governor should take some urgent steps. And one of the steps is to declare his ambition once and for all. There is no need to tarry or waste more time over the matter. Of course, he has been considered as the potential candidate of the APC.
Mr. Tinubu should come out clean. There is no other person that can stop him. If the president had some misgivings about Tinubu, he would stop the former Lagos State governor from visiting the presidential villa. The president not only welcomed Tinubu warmly, but also gave attention to the APC national leader.
When it comes to APC, there are certain powerful leaders that Tinubu can't overlook. And one of them is the president. Another one is the Kano State governor Umar Ganduje. Luckily enough for the politician, Ganduje has become one of his loyalists.
The maverick politician should just declare his ambition, he should simply take the bull by its horn and do the needful immediately. Though the details of the meeting with the president remain sketchy, Tinubu should move on with his plans.
