The Governor of Rivers state, Nyesom Wike has reportedly disagreed with the National Assembly, NASS, on the decision to stipulate direct primaries for the nomination of candidates by political parties for an election.
Governor of Rivers state, Nyesom Wike
Although the Governor praised the lawmakers for allowing the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, to determine the use of electronic transfer of results, he however, noted that dictating how the political parties conduct their primaries was not in their best interests.
To Governor Nyesom Wike, parties should be allowed to apply whatever method or procedure - whether direct or indirect primaries, to elect their representatives. Hence, the decision to stipulate direct primaries for political parties amount to interference into the parties' internal affairs, the Governor argued.
However, do you agree with the Governor, that the law for parties to use direct primaries is an interference on their internal affairs?
