Akeredolu records landslide victory in Ondo APC governorship primaries

The Ondo State Governor, Mr Rotimi Akeredolu, has recorded a landslide victory in the just concluded Ondo gubernatorial primary election, emerging the candidate of the All Progressives Congress for the October 10 governorship election in the state.

The primary election was held yesterday at the International Culture and Events Center (The Dome), Akure.

The chairman of the election, Governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi state announced the result after voting, sorting and counting of the votes.

Akeredolu polled 2, 458 delegate votes while his closest challenger Olusola Oke got 262 votes. Former chairman of the party in the state Isaac Kekemeke came a distant third with paltry 19 votes.

No violence was recorded throughout the 14-hour exercise.

In his acceptance speech, Governor Akeredolu thanked the Chairman and the committee members for conducting the election in a free and fair manner.

He stated he could not have had it better as the victory was handed to him on his birthday, pointing out that the exercise started on his wife’s birthday and ended on his own birthday.

He also appreciated President Muhammadu Buhari, the National Leader of the party, Bola Tinubu and other leaders of the APC for their support.

More also In appreciation to the victory, Akeredolu tweeted: “4+4 is the code for continuity. #GODWIN.”

However, the pioneer chairman of the party in the state, Isaac Kekemeke, lamented that the election was a sham.

He accused the Chairman of the primary election committee of being unfair to him and other governorship aspirants of the party in the state.

Kekemeke said: “For me, this process is unfair. It is aimed at producing a predetermined result.

“I have lost confidence in the process. It is not about who wins or loses, all I am saying is that those who lose must lose fairly and those who win must win fairly."

A total number of 4 aspirants had earlier stepped down in the gubernatorial race, to support Akeredolu in the governorship election.

11 out of 12 governorship aspirants earlier rejected the indirect primary option, while Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, who is seeking reelection, supported it although he said he was not afraid of direct primary.
