Ibrahim Babangida whom many refer to as IBB, bears the full name Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida. He was given birth to on the 17th day of August,1941. He is currently 79 years of age. Ibrahim Babangida was born in a settlement in Minna, the capital city of Niger State.
The school in which Ibrahim Babangida had his nursery as well as primary school education has not been ascertained at the time of writing this article. There are no records of his nursery and primary school on the media.
At the completion of his nursery and primary school education, Ibrahim Babangida was enrolled by his parents at Provincial Secondary School which is located in Bida.
He schooled in Provincial Secondary School from the year 1957 to 1962. Thereafter, he enrolled to be a part of the Nigerian Army. However, it was successful as he was recruited into the Nigerian Army on the 10th day of December, 1962.
He enrolled into the Nigerian Army through the Nigerian Military Training College (NMTC), which is located in Kaduna.
Ibrahim Babangida graduated as a 2nd Lieutenant on the 26th day of September, 1963.
Ibrahim Babangida did not relent in his career in the military. He proceeded to possess more military training from January 1966 to April 1966.
He also registered for a Course 38 of the Young Officers’ Course (ARMED) in the United Kingdom. At the completion of the course, he afterwards had a four-month course in Saladin and gunnery.
Between August 1972 and June 1973, Ibrahim Babangida had a course for Advanced Armoured Officers’ at the prestigious Armored school. Subsequently, between January 1977 and July 1977, he had the Senior officers’ course at Armed Forces Command and Staff College which is situated in Jaji. from January 1977 until July 1977
In the year 1980, Ibrahim Babangida had a Senior International Defence Management Course at the Naval Postgraduate School located in the United States of America.
Throughout his lifetime, Ibrahim Babangida had been a 2nd Lieutenant, a Lieutenant, a Captain, a Major, a Lieutenant Colonel, a Colonel, a Brigadier, a Major General as well as a General in the Nigerian Army. He attained the the above ranks between 1963 and 1987.
He was also a member of the Supreme Military Council for four years. That was from the year 1975 to 1979.
Ibrahim Babangida got married to Maryam Babangida on the 6th day of September, 1969. Maryam Babangida was the First Lady of the Federal Republic of Nigeria for a period of 8 years, from 1985 to 1993.
From 1985 to 1993, Ibrahim Babangida was the Military Head of State of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
The union of Ibrahim Babangida and Maryam Babangida brought forth four children. The names of the children Maryam Babangida had for Ibrahim Babangida are Muhammadu Babangida, Aminu Babangida, Aishatu Babangida, and Halima Babangida.
We lost Maryam Babangida in the year 2009 to the cold hands of death. She had battled with the complications related to ovarian cancer which she had as an underlying illness.
She gave up the ghost on the 27th day of December, 2009. Nigerians couldn't hold back their tears as a rare gem had been lost.
Not much is known about Halima Babangida's early parentage, childhood, schools attended from nursery to tertiary education level as well as her profession at the time of writing this article as it was not disclosed to the public nor the media.
However, Halima Babangida is the last child of the four children of Ibrahim Babangida.
She was born in the year 1989. She was born at First Consultant Hospital, which is located in Obalende, a settlement in Lagos State. From proper calculations, Halima Babangida is currently 31 years of age.
Eight years after the death of Maryam Babangida, her daughter, Halima Babangida got married to her beloved husband, Auwal Abdullahi.
The wedding ceremony which took place on the 12th day of May 2017, had in attendance the high and mighty in the society. Top politicians, government officials, entrepreneurs as well as high profiled individuals from all walks of life were present to grace the occasion.
The wedding ceremony was done in Minna, the capital city of Niger State.
Government activities as well as commercial activities in the state were brought to a stand still, so as to allow easy access of personalities to and from the wedding venue.
At thereabout 7:00 am, there were increased numbers of armed security personnels on the major roads that lead to and from Minna metropolis. They were also positioned on the road that leads to the Hilltop mansion of the Babangidas.
Among the personalities who attended the wedding ceremony was Sheik Habibu Wushishi, the Imam of Wushishi Central Mosque, which is located at Ibrahim Babangida’s hometown.
Sheik Habibu Wushishi carried out the joining of the the couple after the groom's family had paid the sum of N500,000 and had given out 19 cows as the bride price.
Ibrahim Dangwambo acted as the father of the groom on that very day of the occasion. After General Wushishi had accepted the dowry paid by the groom's family, he gave out the hand of Halima Babangida to her husband, Auwal Abdullahi.
30 aircrafts conveying dignitaries and high profiled individuals in the society landed at the venue of the occasion. From the 30 aircrafts that landed, there were 26 private jets and 4 Police and Air Force aircrafts.
Dignitaries who attended the wedding ceremony include former President of Nigeria, Goodluck Jonathan, and his wife, Dame Patience Jonathan, former Senate President, Bukola Saraki, former Vice President Namadi Sambo, Aliko Dangote, Abdulsalami Abubakar as well as other dignitaries too numerous to mention.
