Nigeria is a country that is governed by a rule of law and a well-documented constitution. The constitution is the law, and every citizen is to abide by it.
Concerning all that has been happening between the two regions in Nigeria. The Southern governors said the next president should come from the south while the Northern region ignores the idea, says it is a selfish idea. A former senator from Kaduna State has just made it known that it is best if the power rotation issue is included in the constitution. If Senator Shehu Sani's idea can be adopted, the following factors can be achieved:
The issue of political tussle can be averted.
During every presidential election, there are a lot of tussles and physical scuffles among tribes, regions and political parties in Nigeria. If the idea of power rotation is included, it will not only ensure fairness, there will be equality. Although, since the era of democracy in Nigeria, the two regions have been ruling the country simultaneously.
The power concentration will be even.
Also, including power rotation in the constitution will bridge the gap of continuous ruling, i.e., no region will dominate more than the expected time or tenure. It will also reduce the pressure of looking for a competent candidate in the country as the concerned region will know how to find the right candidate for the seat.
It will be so good if Senator Shehu Sani's interview can be given a deep thought and further deliberation by the national Assembly.
