Former President of the University of Benin Alumni Association (Worldwide), Chief (Dr.) Richard Oma Ahonaruogho, has dismissed comments attributed to the first female Vice-Chancellor of the academic institution, Professor Grace Alele-Williams, alleging a confrontation with the candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu. Dr. Richard who was classmates with Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu in the law department of the University of Benin, clarified that Professor Adamu Bike was the Vice Chancellor of the school when they were falsely named and suspended for an incident that took place on campus before the school's Senate absolved them of any wrongdoing. As political tension heightened ahead Edo forthcoming Governorship election, thirty-five registered and de-registered Political Parties in Edo state, Friday said they are backing the re-election bid of incumbent Governor Godwin Obaseki and his deputy Phillip Shaibu. Edo State Commissioner for Education, Barr. Jimoj Ijegbai, has said that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Governor Godwin Obaseki would defeat the All Progressives Congress in Owan East local government in the September 19 governorship election. Federal Government has given school owners in the country up to 29th July, 2020 to meet specific guidelines towards the reopening of schools at a date to be announced in due course. This was contained in a statement issued on Friday by the Director of Information, Federal Ministry of Education, Ben Bem Goong. According to him, the the Minister of State for Education, Hon Chukwuemeka Nwajiuba who stated this in his office in Abuja, said the Ministry, having consulted widely, has in collaboration with Federal Ministry of Health, Nigerian Centre for Disease Control,(NCDC), the Education in Emergencies Working Group, developed and circulated guidelines for the reopening of schools.
