Four Major Candidates Who May Likely Emerge As PDP Flag Bearers For 2023 Presidency

The race for the 2023 PDP presidential ticket is now open for every interested candidate since the National Executive Committee failed to ratify the recommendations given by the zoning commitee led by governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi.

Part of the recommendations was that the chairmanship position of the party will be zoned to the North and that would pave a way for the South to produce the next candidate for the party.

However, since the race is now open for all interested candidates, this article will take a look at four major candidates who may likely emerge as flag bearers.

Former Nigerian president, Goodluck Ebele Jonathan is the first person on my list. Although he is yet to declare his intentions officially, a lot of indications suggest that he might be interested in the position of the presidency.

Another candidate who may likely emerge as flag bearer is Rivers state governor, Nyesom Wike. The South-South governor is one of the prominent PDP chieftains in the country. And from all indications, Nyesom Wike is interested in the position. Furthermore, governor Nyesom Wike was one of those who influenced the outcome of the recommendations of the zoning commitee led by Ugwuanyi. This alone shows how powerful he is in the party.

Another major candidate who may likely emerge as flagbearer is former Nigerian vice president, Atiku Abubakar. During the last NEC meeting which was held in Abuja, Atiku Abubakar was one of those who refused the recommendations of the zoning commitee. He was the one who admonished the party to allow all Interested candidates to contest for the presidency irrespective of geopolitical zone.

The last on our list is Delta state governor, Dr Ifeanyi Okowa. The chairman of the South East governors forum may likely emerge as flagbearer for the party if he contests. According to some reports which were released some days ago, we were made to understand that the leadership of the party are planning to pick Okowa as their candidate. The reason was that Okowa is Delta Igbo and if he emerges as the party's flagbearer, residents of the South-East will not hesitate to vote for him.

These four people mentioned above are prominent members of the Peoples Democratic party. Although none of them have officially declared their interests, all indications suggest that they will.

If you were given the opportunity to pick from these four, who would you prefer to be the next president of the country?
