A video of Margaret Obi, the wife of the ex-Anambra state governor, Peter Gregory Obi explaining how her husband changed the constitution of Nigeria concerning election has surfaced online
The viral video, which was recorded during the election campaign, had Margaret speaking to Akwa Ibom women doing a town hall meeting
Margaret Obi said Peter obi is the reason why the country usually has staggered elections: an election which is usually conducted in a certain part of the country
She said it was because of his case in 2003 that all the states in Nigeria do not hold the governorship election on March 11.
Further, she said the Tenure interpretation that was granted to him by the Supreme was the reason why all the governors do not finish their tenure at the same time
She said "This your inlaw is the one who changed the Nigerian Constitution when it comes to election. That is why we have staggered elections. In 2003 when they collected his mandate, he said he was heading to the court. I looked at him and asked him where he was going and told him to sit down and forget the whole thing. He sat at the court for three years and the party he was then wasn't the ruling party. After everything, one day, his mandate was given back to him. That is why the governorship election doesn't happen in all the states at the same time. For example, the march 11 election won't happen in all the states.
Speaking about the Tenure Interpretation, she said
The third time he visited the court was when he sought a tenure interpretation and it was later granted to him after he visited the supreme court. Today, several people and states benefited from the Tenure interpretation. This means that the day you enter the government house is the day you will start counting the days as a governor.
