Okupe warns PDP: Don’t zone 2023 presidency to North

Former presidential spokesman, Dr Doyin Okupe, has kicked against the alleged plan to zone 2023 presidency to the North by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

“There is a strong indication that the party is erroneously tilting towards zoning the presidency to the North. Zoning is a veritable instrument that ensures equity and balancing in the nation, gives hope and confidence and support to our national unity”, Okupe said yesterday in a statement.

Tension as suspected herdsmen attack Benue community, kill 2, abduct one

Gunmen suspected to be Fulani herdsmen, terrorizing parts of Benue State, have attacked the Yelwata community in Guma Local Government Area of the State.

DAILY POST gathered that the armed men who carried out the attack, on Saturday, butchered two residents and whisked another one to unknown destination.

A resident of the community, Mr Tarka said the incident triggered tension in the area, stating that more residents have been displaced.

When contacted, Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO in the state, DSP Catherine Anene told our correspondent that the incident was yet to be reported to the command.

Again, Boko Haram destroy four power lines along Maiduguri-Damaturu road

After destroying several electricity power lines thereby cutting off Maiduguri metropolis from enjoying electric power supply for about nine months, four other high tension towers supplying electricity along Damaturu-Maiduguri in Borno State were destroyed by suspected members of ISWAP fighters on Friday night.

This latest setback comes barely one month after the NNPC commenced the building of a gas plant to provide electricity to the state in the North-East sub-region.

The electric towers were destroyed at Garin Kuturu village, which is about two kilometres from Auno, an area constantly terrorised by the insurgents.

According to reports, the attack on the facilities started in the evening around 7 pm and lasted up to 10 pm after which the four power lines were destroyed.

The Presidency yesterday confirmed the 15 major projects spread across the country’s six geo-political zones to be financed with the proposed over $4 billion loan to be sourced from multilateral institutions, under the 2018-2021 medium-term (rolling) external borrowing plan.

Presidential spokesman, Mallam Garba Shehu, in a statement disclosed that President Muhammadu Buhari had requested the Senate to approve the sovereign loans of $4.054 billion and €710 million as well as grant components of $125million for the proposed projects.
