Opinion: 3 Igbo Politicians That Should Get Involved In The 2023 Race

While the 2023 race is some years ahead,  interested gladiators across different political parties have put in place their machinery and forces loyal to them have swung into action to ensure a successful outing.

The 2023 race is going to be competitive judging by the influential political chieftains that will be involved in the race, one certain thing is that come 2023, Nigerians will queue up at different voting centers to elect a new leader that will direct the affairs of the country for another four years.

While the northern part of the country will be concluding 8 years of occupying the seat of presidency, the next occupant of Aso Rock may be from the southern states of the country, if the zoning process is followed.

Even though it is an informal way of rotating power between the different parts of the country, the zoning process has played an important role in strengthening the growth of democracy in Nigeria, as it promotes equality and fairness.

In the spirit of unity and fairness, 2023 may be the year the Igbo presidency comes to fulfillment. Analyzing how the seat of presidency has been rotated among the different geopolitical zones in the country, both South-west and South-South has produced an occupant of the Aso Rock, it should be the turn of the South-East geopolitical zone to occupy the seat of the presidency.

The Igbo socio-cultural group, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, has been very vocal about the Igbo Presidency come 2023, if this call is to become a reality, the following politicians may need to get involved in the race.

1. Peter Gregory Obi: He was the governor of Anambra State for two terms and was the running mate of Alhaji Atiku Abubakar in the last presidential election.

Obi's performance as a Governor was impressive, he made Anambra State better in terms of infrastructural development and people-driven projects. He is a successful businessman and a very brilliant entrepreneur, he is well equipped to turn the economy of the country if voted into power.

Peter Gregory Obi is one of the Igbo politicians that may need to get involved in the 2023 race.

2. David Nweze Umahi: His performance as the governor of Ebonyi state has been impressive, he is one of the best performing governors from the southeast geopolitical zone. The decision of Governor Dave Umahi to join the All Progressive Congress could turn out to be a masterstroke in the race to the Aso Rock.

If he can clinch the party's ticket, he could be the politician to make the Igbo presidency a reality. It will take a lot of hard work, political permutation, and luck to clinch the APC presidential ticket as many powerful gladiators are likely to be interested in having the same party's ticket.

3. Senator Rochas Okorocha: He is an experienced politician who has a connection with some power brokers in the country that could be very important in the 2023 race.

He may need to sort out the tussle between him and Governor Hope Uzodimma to get involved in the 2023 race.

The 2023 race is for politicians that have the political structure, financial capacity, and the right connections with the power brokers in the country.

Dear Reader, Who do yo you think has the best chance among the three politicians mentioned in this write-up? Drop your comments!
