(Opinion) 2023: How Nyesom Wike Can Emerge As PDP Vice-presidential Candidate

It is in the public domain that Nyesom Wike is one of the major stakeholders in the opposition People's Democratic Party (PDP) today, as Governor of the Oil-Rich Rivers State, Wike has literally made himself of the National Leaders of the Party.

Recall that during the 2018 PDP Presidential Primaries, Wike influenced the decision of the party to hold it's National Convention at Port-hacourt, Rivers State Capital. Then, he supported his Sokoto State Counterpart, Aminu Tambuwal for the PDP Presidential Ticket, but Tambuwal later emerged as the Runner-up behind the eventually winner, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar.

As the next General Elections is fast approaching, Wike should mobilize PDP Delegates in the South to support Tambuwal. Already, the Sokoto State Governor is very popular in the North, especially in the North-West. Meanwhile, with the recent development that political parties should adopt of Direct Primaries, this will prevent any form of manipulation and financial inducement in the forthcoming PDP Primaries which is expected to hold in 2022.

With a strong political structure in the North-West coupled with the support of Southern Delegates, Tambuwal might clinch the PDP Presidential Ticket. Thus, it is believed that Wike stands a better chance of becoming the 2023 PDP Vice-presidential Candidate.
