Npower Beneficiaries Lambast Minister Over Disengagement and Unfulfilled Promises

Beneficiaries of the Federal Government's empowerment programme popularly called Npower have continued to express their dissatisfaction with the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, Mrs. Sadiya Umar Farouq. They accuse her of una initiating and orchestrating the decision to disengage the first two batches of the programme, otherwise known as Batch A and B.According to the Ministry, Batch A have now been disengaged while Batch B will follow suit at the end of July, with both batches yet to receive their stipends for the month of June.

They equally accuse the minister of deliberately holding the stipends of many beneficiaries since the month of March, to which the ministry said that their payments wrri flagged by GIFMIS, which is the new payment platform for the programme. And also, they have openly opposed the GEEP loan exit package, recently proposed by the Minister of Finance, Budget and National Planning, Zainab Ahmed.

The beneficiaries equally expressed displeasure with the Ministry and minister over the inability of the handlers to fulfill their promise of providing Batch B beneficiaries with mobile devices.

In reaction to a post she made recently, on Facebook and Twitter, which was about a virtual Federal Executive Council meeting she attended, all her followers commented negatively, even wishing her ill-luck in her endeavours. The beneficiaries, whose comments were quite similar, cut across the nation. Read the post by the Minister below:

I also attended the virtual weekly FEC meeting during which we deliberated on pressing issues of state. We also observed a one minute silence in honour of Inuwa AbdulKadir, former Min. of Youths & Sports & FEC member. The meeting was presided over by HE President Muhammadu Buhari.

I held a virtual meeting with IOM Nigeria led by their Head of Party on their activities and areas of priorities given the impact of the Covid 19 pandemic.

My team and I continue to interface with stakeholders to ensure a successful transition for the Npower. It has been 16 days since the portal opened and we have received 4.48 million applications to date.
