[Opinion] Philip Umeadi vs Gov. Hope Uzodinma: Is The Governor's Camp Prepared For The Suit?

Arguably, the position of Senator Hope Uzodinma as the Executive Governor of Imo State cannot be said to have been cemented until the Supreme Court decides the suit filed by Chief Phillip Umeadi (SAN), demanding his sack, and a possible return of Emeka Ihedioha as the duly elected Governor of the state. It should be recalled that since the Supreme Court declared Senator Hope Uzodinma winner of the March 2019 Imo state governorship election, there have been legal moves to unseat him.

Despite the inability of some of the suits seeking Governor Hope Uzodinma's sack to succeed in Court, the one filed against him by Chief Phillip Umeadi (SAN) has remained pending. Arguably, Chief Phillip Umeadi's suit is totally different from others that have failed in the court due to the fact that it is not challenging the judgement that declared Hope Uzodinma Governor, nor is it disputing the results of the March 2019 Imo state governorship election.

The suit is demanding that the Supreme Court should enforce the judgement that recognized Uche Nwosu as the validly nominated candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC). Arguably, the enforcement could lead to the sack of Governor Hope Uzodinma, as Chief Phillip Umeadi had prayed to the Court. This is due to the belief that Uche Nwosu's victory as APC candidate nullified the candidature of the Governor.

Considering the chances of the Chief Phillip Umeadi's suit to succeed, due to the points raised in it, we may begin to wonder if the Governor's camp is prepared for whatever the outcome will be. It should be recalled that a recent report by Daily Post revealed that the Supreme Court will soon fix a date to hear the suit. It is no doubt that many people are anxiously waiting to see how the case will be decided. However, the big question once again is whether the Governor's camp is prepared for whatever the outcome may be.
