BREAKING: Why we banned cryptocurrency in Nigeria – CBN
Trading in Cryptocurrencies is not backed by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Act which recognizes the naira as the only legal tender in the Nigerian financial system, an analyst has said.
The CBN had on Friday, directed Deposit Money Banks (DMBs), Other Financial Institutions (OFIs) and Non-Bank Financial Institutions (NBFIs) local financial institutions to close accounts belonging to crypto currency operators.
But a member of the Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) said on Saturday that the apex bank never prevented any individual from dealing in cryptocurrency, adding that what the apex bank said was deposit money banks under its purview cannot partake in cryptocurrency because it will be illegal.
The MPC member, who spoke anonymously, explained that crypto trading would undermine monetary policy which is anchored on Naira money supply and demand.
Next President Will Fix The Rot Created By Buhari, Says Wike.
Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, says the next president of Nigeria will spend his tenure fixing the ethnic, religious and socio-economic problems created by the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The governor noted that since the APC administration assumed office in 2015, religious intolerance and ethnic division have deepened. And worst still, is the politicisation of security.
He stated this during the official presentation of letter of nomination to him for the “2020 Extra Ordinary Personality of the Year Award” by the management of Silverbird Group at the Government House, Port Harcourt.
Governor Wike said, Despite the glaring insecurity, religious and ethnic division in the country, the officials of the federal government have continued to live in denial that Nigeria is now more united and secure than ever.
The problem in Nigeria, which I have always said is that the press, the media is part of our headache. The media have lost their voice. I remember when Goodluck Jonathan was the President; it was as if the media wanted to pull down the whole of Nigeria.
Akwa Ibom state Government has stated its determination and readiness to henceforth disengage any teacher under its employ displaying acts of truancy and academic laxity.
Chairman of the State Secondary Education Board (SSEB), Dr Ekaette Ebong Okon, who made this known weekend while interacting with newsmen in Uyo, said government has discovered that secondary school teachers posted to rural areas always abandon their work for farming and trading activities.
Dr. Ebong who did not particularly mention the schools involved, described the development where some teachers do not work for and still receive monthly salaries as unfortunate.
Her words, We have to persuade teachers in our schools to do their work. I am not afraid to tell you that most people who take up government jobs as teachers refuse to do their work.
PDP Should Stop Defaming President Buhari’s Former Service Chiefs – Presidency.
The Presidency has dismissed the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) ‘attack’ over the nomination of the former heads of the Army, Navy, Air Force, and the Military Intelligence to the Senate for confirmation as non-career ambassadors.
According to the presidency, this transition is normal in decent democratic societies.
In a statement on Saturday, special media aide to the president, Mr. Femi Adesina frowned at the fact that newspapers and online media are full of pages of ‘laughable’ criticisms of the President and former Service Chiefs by the party, the latest of which was the claim that they were nominated as ambassadors so as to shield them from trial by the International Criminal Court, ICC.
“How on earth can decent people run down hardworking professionals who have put in their best to defend their country? How can you run down your country and equate that with normal political dialogue and opposition?
“What is baffling about this false and baseless assertion is that this is coming, not from Boko Haram terrorists who the military kept largely in check and confined to a known section of the country, Sambisa, but from a so-called leading opposition party that fraudulently kept power for 16 years and is nursing the hope of one day returning to office as an elected government.
